Wind can affect nearly every structural part of a fence. Common problems include leaning posts, loose posts, broken posts, shifted footings, detached panels, broken rails, failed fasteners, damaged boards, separated sections, gate misalignment, partial collapse, and complete blow-over.
Visible damage does not always reveal the full structural problem. Connected fence runs can transfer wind loads through posts, rails, panels, and fittings beyond the area that first appears damaged.
High winds place lateral pressure on fence systems, especially solid or mostly solid privacy fencing. That force is transferred into posts, footings, rails, fasteners, brackets, and panel connections.

Even when the fence is fully down, some posts, panels, rails, or boards may remain structurally reusable.
