Why Fence Gates Sag

The opening should be checked for width, plumb, and squareness. Simply trimming the gate or moving the latch can hide a structural alignment problem.

A rotten gate post can gradually lose the strength needed to support the gate. A structurally sound post can also shift out of alignment because of footing or soil movement.
